Beagle Puppy Training: Down In The Field

Friday, July 16th, 2010

There are lots of tricks and lessons you could teach your dog during beagle puppy training. A few of the most important are lessons on housebreaking and puppy obedience training. These might not be as fancy as tricks like shake, crawl or twirl but are definitely necessary if you want to keep you pet safe as well as make your life as dog owner easy.

The down, as well as sit, stay and come is part of obedience. The mentioned command should be taught as early as possible for it is among the most valuable lessons a young four-legged friend can learn. A dog that lies down on command is not only a sign of an obedient and respectful dog but is also an assurance that the pet is less likely to meet accidents and trouble in different situations. A hyperactive young pup about to leap to a little girl or preparing to run after the neighbor’s cat could be handled with the command. Issuing the down command can also keep him from running towards the street where he is more likely to get hit by speeding vehicles.

Training a dog this command is not extremely tough. But the real problem arises when your precious beagle only obeys the command in a particular area such as your living room. If that’s the case, how can this command benefit him? In order for this command to be truly useful at the same time ascertains you that your dog is safe wherever he is, he must learn to obey the command be it in the yard, park, field and other areas you go to.

During dog training, it helps if you change your training place every once in awhile. Like if you’re training your dog in the living room today, the next time you train him the down command should be in other parts of the house apart from your living room. This prevents him from associating the command with a certain place – train him in the kitchen , porch, garden and then later on at the nearest park, field and other places you frequent.

When you are out for training, don’t forget to bring his favorite treat to reward him for a job well done.
